Round 2 Recap – The Memorial Tournament: Carnage at the Cut Line

Round 2 at The Memorial Tournament is in the books, and Muirfield Village continues to bare its teeth. With fast greens, tight fairways, and penal rough, players found themselves grinding to make the weekend. The 36-hole cut rule was in full effect: top 50 and ties, along with anyone within 10 shots of the lead, earned a tee time for Saturday. For many—including several of our league selections—the journey ended early.

No Selection? No Excuses.
Five players failed to submit a selection this week: Dave , Jim , John , and Pat each receive JJ Spaun, the 25th-ranked OWGR player in the field. Unfortunately for them, Spaun missed the cut at +6, sending their lineups packing and tagging each with a $5 fine.
Pauli, already in hot water after missing last week’s pick, triggered the Sutton Fine Rule and was docked $10. His fill-in? Brian Harman (OWGR 27)—who carded an ugly +10 and also missed the cut.

League Highlights Through 36 Holes

  • Collin Morikawa looked untouchable after a 67 on Thursday but stumbled with a 75 today. Still in the hunt, but momentum needs to shift.

  • Akshay Bhatia remains consistent with rounds of 70-69, setting himself up nicely for a strong finish.

  • Scottie Scheffler continues to defy gravity, cruising through with back-to-back 70s.

  • Xander Schauffele bounced back with a 69 today, keeping him firmly in the chase.

  • Russell Henley turned heads with a 68 to comfortably slide into weekend play.

Weekend Predictions
With several heavy hitters near the top, look for fireworks down the stretch. Scheffler, Bhatia, and Henley are poised for big paydays if they can keep the gas pedal down. Meanwhile, Morikawa and Lowry are hovering and could strike if Saturday plays soft.

Leader Watch:
Don’t count out Xander, and keep an eye on Si Woo Kim—though his 77 today may have done too much damage. The final 36 holes are shaping up to be brutal, beautiful, and full of leaderboard movement.

Stay tuned for more chaos as the field thins and the pressure mounts heading into the weekend at Muirfield Village.
