๐Ÿ“ Round 1 Recap – The Memorial Tournament

It was a bruising Thursday at Muirfield Village as Jack’s Place served up firm greens, swirling winds, and serious scorecard wreckage. With the full field guaranteed four rounds thanks to Signature Event rules, there’s still plenty to play for — but Round 1 gave us an early peek at who's locked in and who's already in scramble mode.

Let’s break it down with a spotlight on league selections and important updates:

๐ŸŒ️‍♂️ Morikawa Sets the Tone

Collin Morikawa came out firing with a 67 (-5), one of the rounds of the day. For those lucky (or smart) enough to pick him this week — chef’s kiss. He looked automatic with the irons and confident with the putter.

๐Ÿ“Š Solid Showings: Morikawa Leads, But He’s Not Alone

A number of league selections put together respectable first rounds:

  • Scottie Scheffler – 70 (-2): The machine rolls on. Boring golf — and that’s a compliment.

  • Si Woo Kim – 70 (-2): A sharp, focused round. Good early return.

  • Akshay Bhatia – 70 (-2): Smooth, athletic, and unfazed. Sneaky-good pick.

  • Shane Lowry – 69 (-3): One of the best rounds of the day. Under the radar but dangerous.

⚖️ Hovering Around Par

Several players kept themselves in the hunt without going too deep:

  • Harris English – 71 (-1): Quietly effective.

  • Patrick Cantlay – 72 (E): Former champ just couldn’t get much momentum.

  • Tommy Fleetwood – 72 (E): Missed a few short putts that could have made this a 68.

๐Ÿ˜ฌ A Bit Shaky

Too many mistakes added up for these selected players:

  • Xander Schauffele, Corey Conners – 73 (+1): Fine, but underwhelming.

  • Hideki Matsuyama, Viktor Hovland, Russell Henley, Sepp Straka – 74 (+2): Each of them will need a Friday rally to stay relevant.

  • Ludvig ร…berg, Maverick McNealy – 75 (+3): Rough day. Particularly disappointing for McNealy — again the league’s auto-pick for no-selections.

๐Ÿšจ Fine Watch: 80 or Worse

We had two league selections shoot 80 or higher, and both come with a $5 fine per league rules:

  • Daniel Berger – 81 (+9) → Selected by Derek , who will be fined $5.

  • Justin Thomas – 80 (+8) → Selected by Steve, also fined $5.

Selecting a player who shoots 80 or worse? That’s a wallet penalty, folks.

No Selections = No Excuses

We had five members fail to submit a pick this week:

  • Dave , Jim , John , Pat → Each fined $5 for missing their selection.

  • Pauli  → Missed his pick for the second straight week. As a result, he falls under the Sutton Fine Rule and is fined $10 this week.

Missing once is costly. Missing twice? That’s a trend the league doesn’t take lightly.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Looking Ahead

With three rounds to go, there's room to climb — or plummet. Will Morikawa keep up the pressure? Can Scheffler or Lowry mount a charge? And can Derek and Steve recover from their 80+ disasters?

Stay sharp — and stay on top of your picks. Segment 3 is just heating up.
