PGA Championship – Round 2 Recap from Quail Hollow
Rain delays, cut carnage, and leaderboard fireworks—Round 2 of the PGA Championship brought it all. As storms rolled through Charlotte, Quail Hollow toughened up, and the cut line swallowed up some of golf’s biggest names—and some of Golf’s Greatest Gamble's boldest picks.
π§️ Weather Watch
Round 3 is off to a delayed start due to inclement weather, with tee times pushed back across the board. For those still alive this weekend, patience will be key.
⛳️ Who's Out – Cut Line Casualties
The PGA cut line landed at +1 (143), and it didn’t spare many league picks. These players have already logged Round 3 scores... because they won’t be playing it:
Jordan Spieth (76-68, 144) – A gritty 68 on Friday wasn’t enough to undo the damage from Thursday.
Justin Thomas (73-72, 145) – One birdie too few.
Ludvig Γ berg (70-75, 145) – A Friday 75 sealed his fate.
Shane Lowry (73-71, 144) – Narrowly missed despite a solid effort.
Brian Bergstol (77-79, 156) – A long shot that didn’t pan out.
Brooks Koepka (75-76, 151) – The major maestro never found his rhythm.
π Still in the Hunt
Several league picks played their way into contention—or at least into the weekend:
Scottie Scheffler (69-68, 137 / -5) – The No. 1 player in the world remains rock solid.
Denny McCarthy (70-68, 138 / -4) – Putting on a putting clinic.
Bryson DeChambeau (71-68, 139 / -3) – Charging into moving day with serious momentum.
Rory McIlroy (74-69, 143 / +1) – Clawed his way back to make the cut on the number.
Xander Schauffele (72-71, 143 / +1) – Hanging around with trademark consistency.
Tyrrell Hatton (68-73, 141 / -1) – A stumble Friday, but still alive.
Cam Davis (66-74, 140 / -2) – Opened hot, cooled off, but did enough.
Ryan Gerard (66-72, 138 / -4) – Kept his foot on the gas.
Keegan Bradley (68-72, 140 / -2) – Quietly in the mix.
π Mulligan Moves – 3 For 4
Four managers used their mulligans after Round 1—and they’re all still alive this weekend:
Cam Davis, Ryan Gerard, and Keegan Bradley each made the cut and give their owners hope heading into the weekend.
Ironically, the only original pick that didn’t miss the cut among the mulligan crew was Joaquin Niemann (74-67, 141 / -1)—who was subbed out but made it through.
A cruel twist for Niemann’s former backers, but it’s a game of gambles for a reason.
Leaderboard Shaping Up
With big names rising and rain in the mix, moving day is set to test everyone’s nerves and patience. The third round might be starting late, but the action promises to be anything but dull.
Stay tuned for the next update—if weather permits.
