Myrtle Beach Classic – Round 3 Recap: Crowds, Chaos, and a Crowded Leaderboard

We’re headed into Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Classic, and the Dunes Club has delivered everything we hoped for: birdies, pressure, and a leaderboard packed with players chasing their moment.

After 54 holes, no one has run away with it, but plenty have played their way into contention. With a thinner field than your average PGA event, this week has been all about capitalizing on opportunity — and several league picks are right in the thick of it.

Standout Saturday Performers

  • Alex Smalley has been sharp all week and followed up Friday’s round with another 67 on Saturday. At -9, he’s firmly in contention heading into Sunday.

  • Ben Silverman remains steady and under the radar, posting 69 to move to -10. Quietly one of the most consistent players in the field this week.

  • Harry Higgs delivered a strong 68 to get to -11. He’s putting together one of his most complete events of the season and has a real chance to break through.

  • Sami Valimaki matched Higgs’ 68 and has quietly kept himself in striking range all week. His aggressive play might pay off big come Sunday.

  • Thorbjørn Olesen cooled slightly from his hot start, but a 69 keeps him in the conversation heading into the final round.

Holding Steady

  • Mackenzie Hughes couldn’t quite maintain his early-week pace but remains right in it with a Saturday 70. He sits at -14 and within striking distance.

  • Kevin Yu and Chris Gotterup both posted solid but unspectacular rounds (70 and 71 respectively), keeping themselves within the chase pack.

  • Tom Kim still has work to do after a third-round 71 — not out of it, but he'll need something special Sunday.

League Shakeups

It’s been a bumpy ride for many in Golf’s Greatest Gamble. A number of league picks didn’t survive to the weekend, including:

  • Adam Schenk

  • Patrick Fishburn

  • Joel Dahmen

  • Chandler Phillips

  • Davis Riley

On top of that, several managers failed to submit their picks and were assigned Thriston Lawrence, the highest-ranked player in the field to miss the cut. A harsh reminder that fines aren’t just about cash — they can cost you a tournament.

Final Thoughts

Sunday at the Dunes should be electric. We have a leaderboard full of grinders, journeymen, and names ready to take the next step in their careers. There’s no clear favorite, which means it’s anyone’s game. Look for fireworks late — and for league fortunes to rise or fall fast.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a fun finish.
