Round 2 Recap: Valspar Championship – The Cut Claims Its Victims
The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook continues to be a formidable test, and after two rounds at the Valspar Championship, the cut line has been drawn. Several notable names will be packing their bags early, while others are primed for a weekend charge.
Players Who Missed the Cut
A number of selections from Golf’s Greatest Gamble found themselves on the wrong side of the cut line after struggling through the first two rounds:
Ben Griffin (OWGR 52) – Opened with a rough 75 and followed up with a 70, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut.
Christian Bezuidenhout (OWGR 55) – Posted 74-75, missing out on the weekend.
Greyson Sigg (OWGR 168) – A consistent but unspectacular 73-72 left him heading home early.
Jake Knapp (OWGR 84) – A tough 74-77 saw him drop out of contention early.
These players won’t be teeing it up for Rounds 3 and 4, proving just how difficult this course can be, especially with the swirling Florida winds and undulating greens.
Players Who Made the Cut & Are in Contention
While some struggled, others positioned themselves nicely heading into the weekend:
Jacob Bridgeman (OWGR 97) – A stellar 67-69 start has him in great shape.
Keith Mitchell (OWGR 107) – A strong opening 67 was followed by a 73, but he still gets to play the weekend.
Victor Hovland (OWGR 19) – Steady play with a 70-67 start has him in the mix.
Shane Lowry (OWGR 15) – Fired a strong 71-67 to move up the leaderboard.
Xander Schauffele (OWGR 3) – The highest-ranked player in the field shot a solid 70-68 and looks ready to make a move.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend
With a crowded leaderboard and difficult conditions expected, the Valspar Championship is shaping up for an exciting finish. Can the big names make a push, or will an underdog steal the show? Stay tuned for Rounds 3 and 4 as the battle for the title heats up!
