WM Phoenix Open Round 2 Recap: Moving Day Looms
After two rounds at the always-electric WM Phoenix Open, the leaderboard is tightening up as the cut line has claimed its victims. Several of our league selections are in strong contention heading into the weekend, while others have been sent packing.
Making Moves
Sahith Theegala bounced back in a big way from his opening-round 74, firing a 66 to rocket up the leaderboard and keep himself in the mix. Tom Kim continues to impress, following up his solid 67 with another low round of 66. Meanwhile, Daniel Berger and Keith Mitchell both went 68-66 to put themselves in a great position heading into Saturday.
Other notable performances include:
- Justin Thomas (66-68) – Steady as ever and right in the hunt.
- Nick Taylor (70-66) – A big move up with a strong second round.
- Christian Bezuidenhout (67-66) – One of the best two-day performances in our league’s picks.
- Min Woo Lee (70-66) – Quietly playing well and moving in the right direction.
Weekend Bound
A large chunk of our selections made the cut, keeping plenty of players alive in the money race. The consistency of Sungjae Im (69-69) and Sam Burns (70-69) has them hanging around as we head into Moving Day, while Maverick McNealy (70-68) and Sepp Straka (70-68) are within striking distance.
Missing the Cut
Unfortunately, not everyone was able to keep up with the scoring pace. Billy Horschel (71-72), Matt Fitzpatrick (72-69), Andrew Novak (69-72), Charley Hoffman (73-73), and Chan Kim (73-73) have all been eliminated after failing to make the weekend.
As the action shifts to the third round, expect even more volatility as players jockey for position heading into Sunday. Who will make the big leap? Who will fall behind? One thing is for sure—there’s no shortage of drama at the WM Phoenix Open!
Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament unfolds!
