Cognizant Classic Round 1 Recap & Tournament Outlook

The opening round at PGA National delivered some fireworks, with Daniel Berger leading the way among our league selections after an incredible 63 to start the tournament. However, the biggest story of the day came from Jake Knapp, who wasn't selected but made history by firing a course-record 59!

League Selections – Round 1 Scores:

  • Daniel Berger (63) – A dream start for Berger, sitting near the top of the leaderboard. Can he keep the momentum going?
  • Keith Mitchell (64) – Another strong performance from Mitchell, putting himself in contention early.
  • Michael Kim (65) – A great round to build on, but can he stay consistent?
  • Andrew Novak & Shane Lowry (66) – Solid starts that could turn into something special.
  • A crowd at 67 – Sepp Straka, Matt Kuchar, Mike Thorbjornson, and Grayson Sigg all sit at -3.
  • Most selections in the 68-70 range – Plenty of players are still in the mix after Day 1.
  • Kurt Kitayama & Min Woo Lee (71) – Not the starts they wanted, but there’s time to recover.

Predictions for the Rest of the Tournament:

  • Berger and Mitchell have a real shot to contend for the win if they can keep their hot putting going.
  • Watch out for Sungjae Im and Sepp Straka – both have the ability to make a charge on the weekend.
  • Lowry and Novak could be sneaky picks to climb into the top 10.
  • Will someone else make a run at 59? After Knapp’s record-breaking round, the field knows it’s possible!

Fine Fund Update:

Brandon was fined $10 under the Sutton Fine Rule for failing to make a selection two weeks in a row. His total fine amount increases, adding to the growing fund.

With only four tournaments left in Segment 1, every pick and every shot counts! Who will rise, and who will fall as the Cognizant Classic continues? Stay tuned! ⛳🔥
